WEEK 14 ( FYP 2 presentation week )

AIM

  • To show the final project full view video.

RESULTS
  • In this video show the overall design and animation that has been made. This video will take a duration around two minute with 20 interactive design. This video content with attractive music to make this project more interesting. The important thing is, the main objective to display BMI on 3D view is achieved.

WEEK 13 ( preparation of presentation )

AIM

  • To make a preparation of FYP 2 presentation week.
  • To complete a full project report.

RESULTS
  • Some preparation has been made during this week to complete a presentation on week 14. Final project poster  has been print out during this week. Studying the basic of circuit and made some revision of the full coding that has been written. 
  • Full report of the final project has been complete during this week. Chapter 4 and chapter 5 is the last topic for this report. In this chapter the result analysis and conclusion is a final task to complete the overall final project report.

WEEK 12 ( final report progress )

AIM

  • To make a last touch up for this projects.
  • To make some correction on the coding.
  • To complete a chapter 1, 2 and 3 of the project report.

RESULTS

  • Some correction has been made for this coding. The " BMI " display on the LED cube is arrange at the beginning of the visualize. The number of animation design is increase from 13 to 20 design. The overall programming on this project is around 2100 lines that will attach on the final project report.
  •  For the final project report, chapter 1, 2 and 3 has been complete during this week. The content of the report is include with introduction, literature review and methodology.

WEEK 11 ( poster and budget )

AIM
  • To design a poster for FYP presentation.
  • To list up the final budget for this project.
RESULTS
  • At the figure 1 shows the full view of FYP poster for presentation purposes. The contain on the poster must have all of the point which is objective, methodology, abstract, diagram, analysis, conclusion and final result. The information from the poster will shown the background of the project.
  • At the figure 2 shows the component and overall budget for this project. After the calculation was made, the total needed for this project is around RM420.00. This budget is included with the testing and real project build.

WEEK 10 ( final project view )

AIM
  • To make an assemble and finish up the project design (hardware).
  • To finalize a project coding by compile the entire of programming.

RESULTS
  • At the figure 1 shows that the full view of the project look like. The connection of the project is correctly done when testing process have been make. The function of the box is to keep the controller circuit to make this project look more tidy. 
  • At the figure 2, show some coding to develop this LED cube. The full coding for this project is use around 1600 line with 7 different pattern display. The important thing is, the main objective to display BMI on 3D view is achieved.

WEEK 9 ( cable arrangement and testing coding display )

AIM
  • To make a cable arrangement in every each of port.
  • To try more versatile feature and display.

RESULTS
  • At the figure 1, to make a cable more structured, an arrangement of cable need to do it. Flexible cable hose has been choose to make an arrangement for this cable. To complete this task, around 3-5m flexible cable hose has been used.
  • At the figure 2, after all the arrangement cable have done, the labeling process will take as a next step. Labeling process is an important thing for this project to make sure the structure of coding is equal in every port of PIC.
  • At the figure 3, after the labeling process done, the connection from LED cube have been made to PIC controller circuit. By using a different color of cable it will easy to detect a problem in which port. The connection will look more structured when all of the cable is arrange. 
  • At the figure 4, after all of the cable and connection is correctly arrangement, the project will look as the picture above. 
  • At the video 1, show the main display for this project. According to the title chosen, the coding BMI display has been made. More design and feature will be finish up after this.

WEEK 8 ( led cube operation and project demo )

AIM
  • To testing LED Cube operation.
  • To make a wiring on the cathode terminal at the PCB Board.
  • To run a program testing.
PROBLEMS
  • After week 7, some of problem has been detected. The major problem of the project is when the controller circuit is not working. After troubleshoot process has been made, the controller board still not working like simulation on Proteus software.
FINDINGS
  • At the figure 5, shown that the new controller board has been used for this project. The controller board is buy from Astana Digital electronic shop. This controller board is working similar with the previous one.
RESULTS
  • At the figure 1, the picture shown the process of the wiring on the cathode terminal. Heat shrink has been used to protect the wire from touching with the copper side.
  • At the figure 2, the connector has been used to make an interface between LED PCB board and Controller circuit. All of the terminal need to be declare before the connection been made.
  • At the figure 3, the simple programming as shown in the picture above is doing for make sure every layer of LED is running. Every port in the PIC 16f877a is row depend on the layer of LED.
  • At the figure 4, after all of the process done, the result for 3D LED Cube is shown at the picture above. This project is running smoothly and more various feature will be seen on progress.

WEEK 7 ( led cube process and casing )

AIM
  • To solder all of the LED into a cube form.
  • To make a hole on PCB board.
  • To etching a new PCB LED circuit.
RESULTS
  • At the figure 1, after the hole at the PCB board had been made, the five layer of LED need to be plant on the sponge materials. At the right side of the picture, steel has been used to make the connection of the LED in series direction. The figure on the left side shown the 3D view and for the right side shown the upper layer of the cube.
  • At the figure 2, cathode terminal need to be solder as a base of the cube. The picture shown the step to make it.
  • At the figure 3,  after all of the cathode terminal solder done, the cube of the LED will look as a picture above. The 3D view will be seen on the 45 degree angle.
  • At the figure 4,  the casing of the project will look as a picture above. The function of the casing is to make the LED look more brightness when turn on.
  • At the figure 5,  after all of the process to make LED in cube shape have done, final view of 3D LED Cube is look like the picture above.

WEEK 6 ( program testing and rebuild PCB led layout )

AIM
  • To test the layer of LED with using simple programming.
  • To construct a new PCB layout for LED board.
PROBLEMS
  • After week 6, the several of problem has been recognize. The PCB LED Board need to be change because after the testing have been made, all of the LED is flash on simultaneously. It will be a problem when to make a text on the display LED.
FINDINGS
  • The figure 5 shown the new PCB LED layout. It will shown that LED will turn on one by one and the questioning to make a text on the LED display is answered. 
RESULTS

  • At the figure 1, here is a sample of programming that will be used for testing every layer of each LED. By using C language MPLAB IDE, the simple program have been make.
  • At the figure 2, by using breadboard, the connection of LED is show at the picture above. The jumper wire is refer to the ground (cathode) with series connection. At the upper side (anode), the jumper is used to make every LED blinking singly. 
  • At the figure 3, this controller has been used to transfer the programming to the PIC. The controller will be act as a interface between LED and PIC.
  • At the figure 4, the picture is show the output result for the LED. At the left side, the output of LED show in parallel mode. Cathode terminal (ground) will act as a controller to make the LED blinking singly. For the picture at the right side, LED is connected series. It is happened because cathode terminal (ground) is in series mode (jumper wire).
  • At the figure 5, the PCB LED layout need to construct again because a might of problem have been trace. The problem is, before this, anode terminal is declare as a controller. It will have a problem because on PIC 16F877A is only has 40 pins. Therefore, the new layout have been make to make cathode terminal as a controller for the LED.

WEEK 5 ( soldering led cube )

AIM
  • To soldering entire of LED layer by layer.
  • To show the step of soldering the LED.
RESULTS
  • At the step 1, LED need to be bent as shown at the figure above. Anode terminal need to base by 90 degrees to the left along a line to parallel. For the cathode terminal, by using nose pliers make a 90 degrees downward bend. 
  • At the step 2, five LED need to place parallel as shown at the figure above. All cathode terminal need to be solder at the each of LED. 
  • At the step 3, after the process of soldering done. Multimeter will be use to check the connection all of the LED is good. Positive terminal need to put at the anode lead and negative terminal at the cathode lead as shown in the figure above. The picture beside that shown the LED's is in good condition looks like.
  • At the step 4, the figure shown how the first layer of LED cube looks like. The process at the step 1 to 3 need to repeat until the five layer have been make. The picture beside that shown the five layer soldering has been done. 
  • At the step 5, testing and evaluate process has been show. By using multimeter and jumper wire, the testing process has been held row by row.

WEEK 4 ( etching process )

AIM
  • To etching the both PCB board by using manually.
  • To show the step of etching the PCB board.
RESULTS

  • At the step 1, glossy paper has been used for this PCB board etching circuit. Set iron at the maximum temperature and rub smoothly until all of the ink at the glossy paper stick at the PCB board. This process will take around 15-30 minutes.
  • At the step 2, the glossy paper will look as a picture above, thats mean all of the ink is stick properly on the PCB board. After that, the PCB board need to put on the warm water around 5 minutes to make sure the PCB board more sticky.
  • At the step 3, the etching process will be make by using ferric chloride chemical. This chemical need to mix up with a hot water and sieve around 30 minutes to make sure only the copper side are left.
  • At the step 4, after the etching process done, the PCB board need to rinse by using water before the scrub process has been made. The PCB board will look as the picture above and multimeter has been used to check the continuity all of the copper to make sure all of the connection is in good condition. PCB marker will be used when the connection on the board is not connect properly.

RESULTS
  • This is the PCB controller artwork and normal design for 5x5x5 LED cube.
  • The connection of copper is not 100% smoothly.
  • The blue color of wire is mean the jumper wire need to solder separately.
  • By using PIC controller, the connection of wire or copper will be more complex.
